With a kit bag of powerful songs written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, and with Stax's house band the MG's backing them up, Sam Moore and Dave Prater came roaring out of Memphis with a string of hard-hitting soul singles in the late '60s, each one an enduring classic. This set pairs the duo's first two albums for Stax Records, Hold On, I'm Comin' and Double Dynamite, released in 1965 and 1966, respectively. Moore and Prater may have spent more time arguing than singing together in the later years, but they were blowing the soul house up in these early ones. ~ Steve Leggett
