Swedish metal outfit In Flames release their first album without founding member and chief songwriter Jesper Strömblad, which finds them move away from their heavier metal tendencies and toward a modern, mainstream sound. Sound of a Playground Fading is the tenth record by the outfit and seamlessly embeds electronic synths into the sound alongside the driving guitar riffs that has characterized the band for two decades. Lead singer Anders Friden refines his gritty growls to soaring chorus vocals on single “Deliver Us.”
