Keys to Russia (Modern Soviet Piano Music)
Australian pianist Geoffrey Madge brings to light works in the lives of Soviet composers who developed in light of what Lenin called the "Proletkult," a movement of art designed to bring the latest and most radical developments in art of all forms to the proletariat. Needless to say, given that this directive came from the state, even during Lenin's time the pressure to make art line up with the aims and goals of the state and the movement was short-lived. Stalin wiped out what was left, and in turn went after artists in general.
