With Sun Ra no longer with us, there are very few big bands playing original, creative music. Scott Miller composed most of the music for this album (the exception being a piece by co-leader and bassist Joe Fonda), and arranged all of it. While Miller does not perform on any instrument here, his arrangements are adventurous and exciting, and he has assembled some of the best performers from the New York City scene. Some of the standouts in his conglomeration include rip-roaring trombonist Steve Swell, baritone saxophonist David Schumacher, tenor saxophonist David Bindman, alto saxophonist Mark Whitecage, and drummer Kevin Norton, all of whom soar.
