Some R&B historians have blamed technology for the fact that there were so many forgettable R&B recordings in the mid- to late '80s, but technology per se wasn't the problem. It was a question of what artists chose to do with all those synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines, not the very fact that they were using them.
