Arizona singer/songwriter Howe Gelb knowingly looks like a fish out of water on the back cover of this 2006 album, standing in the snow while wearing short sleeves. This notion extends to the music itself, which finds the eccentric Giant Sand frontman bolstering his quirky desert-rock sound with a gospel choir. While the conceit is certainly unusual given Gelb's gleefully rambling lo-fi tunes, it works surprisingly well on many of 'SNO ANGEL LIKE YOU's tracks.
