Coincidence and Likely Stories
While Buffy Sainte-Marie was never much of a commercial juggernaut in the United States (even at the height of the Folk Revival), this comeback album--her first record in 15 years--undeservedly disappeared from the market on arrival in 1992. Comparable to another singer-songwriter comeback of 1992, Leonard Cohen's THE FUTURE, COINCIDENCE & LIKELY STORIES finds another ex-folkie in step with the digitalia of the modern age. Draped by synth swells and some electronic beats (and only the occasional acoustic guitar), Buffy Sainte-Marie delivers a strong cycle with a defiant message of Native American injustice.
