Piece of What You Need
When he first came on the scene, Teddy Thompson had a lot to prove as the son of British folk-rock godheads Richard and Linda Thompson. By the time of his fourth album, A PIECE OF WHAT YOU NEED, such things were no longer a concern, and the public could absorb his smooth, measured singing and affable mix of pop, rock, and folk on their own merits. There's a bit more upbeat, hook-filled rock here, from the insistent beat and pumping horns of "One of These Days" to an energetic version of the Everly Brothers' "The Price of Love," but there are nevertheless plenty of soft, acoustic, folk-flavored tracks, allowing for just the right dynamic balance.
