Orcustus: Featured Item

The first full-length bow by Norwegian black metal torchbearers Orcustus actually shares a great deal with contemporary American genre figureheads like Nachtmystium. A song like "Of Sophistry, Sophistry and Paranoia," while deafening in its relentless double-bass thrash and satanic growling, escapes the absolute lower registers of doom and is, relatively speaking, slyly tuneful. And "Jesus Christ Patricide" brings to mind another Western Hemisphere metal icon, Slayer. But ultimately, ORCUSTUS is serious black-metal business, primarily for ears accustomed to such punishing, slightly terrifying foreign exports.
