Goffin & King (A Gerry Goffin and Carole King Song Collection 1961-1967)
If you only know Carole King as the denim-bedecked balladeer behind the singer-songwriter landmark TAPESTRY, or King and one-time husband Gerry Goffin only as the hitmeisters behind the Monkees, et al., this collection will set you straight. While it includes some of the pair's biggest hits for others (the Animals' "Don't Bring Me Down," etc.) it fills out the picture, showing that Goffin and King ventured into country (Skeeter Davis's "Let Me Get Close to You"), as well as turning out tunes for everyone from a pre-"Yellow Ribbon" Tony Orlando to a post-"Lion Sleeps Tonight" Tokens.
